New Zealand Minimum Wage Increase
The New Zealand Government has announced that the adult minimum wage will increase from $17.70 to $18.90 on 1 April 2020.
The increase means that workers will receive an extra $1.20 per hour, or $48 per week before tax for an employee who works 40 hours a week.
The increase continues the Government’s plan to achieve a $20 adult minimum wage by 1 April 2021.
Minimum Wage Rates, Effective from 1 April 2020
Adult Minimum Wage – $18.90 Per Hour.
Starting-Out Wage – $15.12 Per Hour
Training Minimum Wage – $15.12 Per Hour
What do you need to do? Check all of your current employees' wages and salaries to make sure they are above the minimum rate. Review your employment contract template to make the changes. Update your business budge to take this increase into account. Consult your solicitor or accountant if you are unsure of anything.
